Gabriela Stafford adds another Canadian record in winning Boston GP

BOSTON - Gabriela Stafford raced to her second Canadian record of the season Saturday, winning the mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in record pace.

The 23-year-old from Toronto crossed in four minutes 24.80 seconds for the victory. Sheila Reid held the previous national record of 4:27.02.

American Elinor Purrier was second in 4:24.88, while Dawit Seyaum of Ethiopia was third in 4:26.84.

Stafford's record run comes after she shattered the Canadian mark in the 5,000 metres to open her season earlier this month in Glasgow.

Alysha Newman of London, Ont., cleared 4.51 metres to finish fourth in the women's pole vault.

Brittany Crew of Mississauga, Ont., was fifth in the women's shot put with a throw of 17.70.

Corey Bellemore of Windsor, Ont., was sixth in the men's 1,500 metres in 3:43.57, while Justyn Knight of Toronto was seventh in 3:45.72.
