Clashes erupt in Pakistan over slain girl; 1 killed

Original Publication Date April 17, 2018 - 4:16 AM

KARACHI, Pakistan - Clashes broke out in Pakistan on Tuesday between police and protesters angered by the killing of a seven-year-old girl earlier this week, in violence that left one protester dead with a gunshot to the head.

Protesters in Karachi threw stones at police, who say they responded by firing tear gas and gunshots into the air. The police say 17 people, mostly police, were wounded in the clashes.

The protesters accuse the police of negligence in the case.

Senior police officer Amir Farooq says the girl went missing two days ago, and that her body was found Monday. He says the initial forensics report suggests she was raped before being strangled.
