Pakistan: Indian fire wounds 2 women, 2 children in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani officials say Indian troops have opened fire from across the Line of Control in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, wounding two Pakistani children and two women.

Pakistan's army blamed India for initiating fire Wednesday, calling it cease-fire violation. In a tweet, Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesman, Nafees Zakaria, said Pakistan returned fire and that the exchange is continuing.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan but claimed by both.

Tension in the region has increased since last month.

India claimed it was carrying out "surgical strikes" against militants in that area. Pakistan alleged India engaged in cease-fire violations that killed two Pakistani soldiers.
