Report: 30 Indian wedding party members die in truck crash

NEW DELHI - A news report says at least 30 people were killed in western India when a truck carrying members of a wedding party went off a bridge and plunged into a large drainage ditch.

Footage shot at the scene showed bodies arranged near the overturned truck, which appeared to have fallen about 30 feet (9 metres).

P.L. Mal, the police superintendent where the accident occurred Tuesday morning in Gujarat state, told The Indian Express newspaper that the driver appears to have lost control because he was tired.

Trucks are often hired by poor Indians to carry people to weddings. Relatives and guests regularly jam the truck beds.
