KELOWNA - The man believed to be responsible for a series of thefts and armed robberies across the Central Okanagan was arrested by tactical members of the Kelowna RCMP and plainclothes officers Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP received a report on June 18 of an armed robbery at the Mac’s Convenience Store, where the suspect pulled a knife.

Thefts were also reported June 16 in Kelowna and June 15 at two convenience stores.

“Due to the suspect's escalating violent behaviour, covert plain clothes operators were tasked with bringing him into custody safely,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey in a press release says. "To ensure public and police safety, a coordinated arrest was carried out by the emergency response team, supported by additional front line officers, a police canine and even an aircraft.”

The 23-year-old Kelowna man was also wanted on an outstanding province wide warrant for his arrest on an unrelated matter, and will appear in court today, June 20.

No one was harmed during any of the robberies.
