NORTH OKANAGAN - Police made an unusual discovery on a back road in the North Okanagan last month — a barrel stuffed with marijuana.

Mounties say they were notified of a large, blue, plastic barrel in the area of the Kingfisher Forest Service Road May 31, 2016.

When they opened it, they found 24 packages of vacuum sealed marijuana with a total weight of about 11.5 kilograms.

Police do not know who the barrel belongs to or how long it was left there — but someone wants it back. Police say forestry consultant companies in Salmon Arm have received anonymous phone calls demanding the return of the barrel and its contents.

“To whom it may concern: These companies do not have the packaged drugs as they have been seized by the RCMP for investigation. If the contents belong to you, please feel free to come see us about them,” police state in a release.

Anyone with further information can contact the North Okanagan RCMP in Enderby or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-7488.
