2 missing after ATVs crash through Kuskokwim River ice

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Two all-terrain vehicles carrying five people crashed through ice on the Kuskokwim River and two people are missing.

Alaska State Troopers took a call on the accident shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The four-wheelers went through the ice near the upper end of Church Slough.

Three people made it out of the river and were transported to Bethel Hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

A search for the two missing people was to resume Monday.

Troopers are recommending that all river travel stop due to thin ice conditions and warm weather. Troopers say river travel has become extremely hazardous.
