ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Anchorage police have released the name of a woman killed in a weekend home fire.

Police say 47-year-old Katherine Schmidt died at the home in south Anchorage. The cause of death is under investigation.

The Anchorage Fire Department shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday received 911 calls reporting a fire in a one-story home on Strawberry Road in the Sand Lake neighbourhood.

Arriving firetrucks found the home fully engulfed with flames showing through the roof and windows.

Firefighters brought the fire under control just before 3 a.m. and found Schmidt in the burned home. The fire's cause has not been determined.
