KAMLOOPS - The first artisan market blending art, food, accessories and tattoos will come to Kamloops next weekend.

True Spade Artisan Market Extraordinaire was created in hopes to connect the artists, creators, and tattoo artists of Kamloops.

Dani French, a tattoo artist at True Spade Tattoo Society, noticed the creative people of Kamloops didn’t have many opportunities to collaborate. She decided to connect the community by organizing the first such event in the city.

“I moved here from Edmonton and I’m used to markets every other weekend. I used to be in them and vend in them, and I got here and realized that wasn’t the case,” says French. “So I thought, if it’s not here, I’ll create it.”

The artisan market will take place on Sunday, June 23 and feature work from local jewelry makers, painters, print makers, and more. Stace DeWolf, Nervous Habits, and Hot Mess food truck are just a few of the vendors registered for the event.

An artist from the shop will be doing flash tattoos all day, ranging in price from about $80 to $120. Piercings will also be available, but they haven’t determined prices yet.

French hopes that this market will have a little bit of bark to contrast the bite.

“We have reached out to the B.C. SPCA in hopes that maybe we can have a couple adoptable puppies out,” she says. “We’re just waiting to hear back on a final verdict.”

Registration is free, but vendors are encouraged to contact the True Spade Tattoo Society beforehand and bring their own table set up necessities.

French grew up in Cache Creek but spent the last ten years in Edmonton. She returned to the region last August for the warmer weather and sunshine, and is hoping to make the market a reoccuring event.

“I think merging the art markets and the tattoo world is going to be really cool, and fun to do, and it’ll bring something new to Kamloops.”

The event will happen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 at True Spade Tattoo Society, 3007 Westsyde road.
