A celebration of neighbourhoods

KELOWNA - Mayor Colin Basran has proclaimed May 15, 2016, to be Neighbour Day in the City of Kelowna.

“We are fortunate to live in such a vibrant and beautiful city, home to many diverse and unique neighbourhoods,” says Mayor Basran. “Neighbour Day is an invitation to pause for a moment during our regular routines and get to know a neighbour or do something to celebrate our neighbourhoods.”

This is the very first Neighbour Day for the City of Kelowna and residents are encouraged to participate by meeting new neighbours, performing a random act of neighbourliness and/or holding a neighbourhood get-together.

Neighbour Day details
Residents planning a Neighbour Day event can register the event with the City’s Strong Neighbourhood Program. Events registered by May 1 will receive a Neighbour Day registration package and be entered into a draw to have an inflatable play structure at the Neighbour Day event on May 15.

Residents who share their Neighbour Day photos and stories via email (neighbourhoods@kelowna.ca) or by using #StrongNeighbourhoods on social media will be entered into a draw to have an inflatable at an end-of-summer neighbourhood party or gathering.

“We know the incredible impact and contribution being neighbourly has on a community and we want to encourage residents to reach out to their neighbours and be neighbourly,” says Louise Roberts, Community & Neighbourhood Programs Manager. “By having a day designated to neighbourly activities and bringing awareness to the benefits of knowing our neighbours, we hope that neighbourhood relationships are strengthened, contributing to an overall positive impact on well-being for neighbours and neighbourhoods.”
