Between the lakes, vineyards, mountains and hot summer weather – it’s no wonder nine of the top 100 patios in Canada are located between Vernon and Osoyoos.

The list of 100 Best Restaurants for Outdoor Dining in Canada for 2021 was created by online reservation website OpenTable, which crunched the numbers by using diner reviews from June 1, 2020 to May 31.

It ranked restaurant patios on a series of data points, including overall score, user clout and the total number of reviews.

There is a disproportionately high number of local patios mentioned, as nearly 10% of the restaurants listed are from the Okanagan, while the population of the valley is little more than 1% of the country. According to the 2020 population estimates, Canada has a population of about 38 million while the Okanagan has a population of just 362,258, according to the 2016 Census.

Here are the nine restaurants in the Okanagan region that made the list:

 • Range Lounge & Grill at Predator Ridge Resort in Vernon

 • Phoenix Steakhouse in Vernon

 • BLOCK ONE Restaurant at 50th Parallel Winery in Lake Country, BC

 • Home Block at CedarCreek Estate Winery in Kelowna

 • 19 Okanagan Grill + Bar – West Kelowna

 • Hillside Winery & Bistro in Penticton

 • Villa Rosa Ristorante in Penticton

 • Sonora Room Restaurant - Burrowing Owl Estate Winery in Oliver

 • The Bear, The Fish, The Root & The Berry in Osoyoos

“For the first time ever, we’re releasing a best outdoor dining list in the fall, so anyone who wants to make the most of this year’s extended patio season can choose from among the best-rated patios in the country,” Matt Davis, director with OpenTable Canada, said in a press release.

“Diners are determined to enjoy every last moment of the season, and restaurants are going above and beyond to make it happen.”
