768 new COVID cases in Interior Health over weekend

An average of 256 people in the Interior Health Region tested positive for COVID over the past three days for a total of 768.

In B.C., as a whole, there were 1,711 new cases including 724 from Friday to Saturday, 545 from Saturday to Sunday and 442 in the last 24 hours, according to a Ministry of Health news release issued today, Aug. 23.

There were 419 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 290 in Vancouver Coastal, 133 on Vancouver Island, 100 in the Northern Health region and one person who lives outside of B.C.

Interior Health has 1,930 of the province’s 5,056 active cases with 133 B.C. residents in hospital, 80 of whom are in intensive care.

There were 16 deaths reported with 14 of those in Interior Health. The Interior Health number was adjusted from Aug. 1.

For B.C. residents over the age of 12, 83.2 per cent have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 74.9 per cent have received their second dose.

As of Sept 13, B.C. residents will need at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and a COVID vaccination card to attend events and eat in restaurants.
