71 cases of COVID-19 in Interior Health; care home outbreaks continue

A resident of the Heritage Square care home in Vernon died overnight. Since the start of the pandemic, 34 people have died in the Interior Health region.

Cases of COVID-19 continue to stack up within the Southern Interior, with 71 new cases being reported overnight.

Currently, there are 785 cases that are active and in isolation within the Interior Health region, while 33 people are in hospital and nine of them in ICU.

The total number of deaths in the region has also risen, with a resident of Heritage Square in Vernon dying overnight. Since the start of the pandemic, 34 people have died.

“Sadly today we report another COVID-related death in long-term care. I want to take the time to offer my condolences to the loved ones and caregivers,” Susan Brown, president and CEO, Interior Health said in a statement.

“We are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases throughout Interior Health, so please, stay home if you are feeling unwell, get tested, and use your layers of protection.”

Interior Health also provided an update on the care homes battling a COVID-19 outbreak.

An outbreak declared at Sunnybank long-term care in Oliver with four staff cases connected to this outbreak.

Creekside Landing long-term care in Vernon has 13 cases, comprised of 10 residents and three staff.

Noric House in Vernon has 10 cases; eight being residents and two staff.

Heritage Square in Vernon has 31 cases; 21 are residents and 10 staff, with two deaths connected to the outbreak.

Heritage Retirement Residence in West Kelowna has 42 cases: 37 residents and five staff. There is one death connected to the outbreak.

Teck mining operations remains at 16 IH cases linked to the outbreak.

McKinney Place long-term care in Oliver has 77 cases, comprised 54 residents and 23 staff. There have been 13 deaths connected to the outbreak.

Village by the Station in Penticton has nine cases. Five are residents and four staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.

Mountainview Village, a long-term care facility in Kelowna, has 16 cases comprised of eight residents and eight staff, with two deaths connected to the outbreak.
