B.C. Housing is building a supportive housing facility to North Kamloops with 39 units for at-risk youth.

Located at 560 and 562 Tranquille Road, Katherine's Place will be operated by A Way Home Kamloops and named for its founder and former executive director Katherine McParland.

Staff will be on-site 24/7 to provide services like meals, counselling and life skills training for tenants. Space is available for youth between the ages of 19 and 26, according to B.C. Housing.

"Katherine McParland had a dream that we would one day provide a home to many young people, in a place where they would feel supported and loved, where all of the wrap around supports they require would be available," A Way Home Kamloops said in a social media announcement for the development.

McParland died suddenly in December 2020, leaving a lasting legacy for the non-profit to follow.

"We are excited to be able to make that dream a reality at Katherine’s Place," A Way Home said.

A Way Home has operated in the region since 2012 to prevent youth homelessness and support youth who are homeless.

B.C. Housing and A Way Home Kamloops will host a community information session in the fall.
