  • Challenging road conditions ahead

    Vernon North Okanagan RCMP continue to respond to motor vehicle collisions as weather temperatures drop throughout the North Okanagan.
  • Safety tips to prepare for winter storm season

    VICTORIA - Most areas of British Columbia have already seen their first snow of the season, and winter conditions will be the norm for the next few months. Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General and Minister Responsible for Emergency Preparedness Mike Farnworth reminds British Columbians that proactive winter storm preparedness can go a long way towards ensuring the safety of B.C. families.
  • Vernon Students and Families Choose Active Transportation to School

    During the month of October the City of Vernon partnered with four elementary schools to celebrate International Walk and Wheel to School Month (iWalk/iWheel), an annual global event that promotes the benefits of active travel to school. Students who walked, biked, or scootered to school won prizes at celebration stations hosted at Ellison Elementary, Harwood Elementary, Okanagan Landing Elementary, and Ecole Beairsto Elementary.
  • Big White opening pump track in Village

    Big White Resort has announced the opening of a pump track and skills course this summer, to accompany the launch of their new bike park.
  • Open burning season ends April 30

    Eligible property owners with permits have until sunset Sunday, April 30th to wrap up any open burning in the Central Okanagan.

    Under Regional District and local fire bylaws, if conditions are favourable, permitted open burning starts October 1st and must be complete by nightfall April 30th.  Fire chiefs may however change the dates depending on the fire hazard in their specific area.
  • Vernon RCMP volunteers checking for drivers distracted by electronic devices

    March is Distracted Driving Month and the Vernon RCMP volunteers will be conducting operations to check for drivers on their phones talking or texting.
  • Waste Collection in Snowy/Icy Conditions

    Winter weather may provide some challenges for Central Okanagan residents and collection crews for curbside pickups.   By working together, we can keep everything moving smoothly.

    During snowy/icy road conditions, your garbage and recycling collection may be delayed. If your pickup is missed on your collection day, leave your carts out until collection occurs, and please be patient, safety comes first.
  • Kamloops RCMP releases winter driving tips

    Snow has arrived and Kamloops RCMP reminds drivers to be road-ready and weather-wise.
  • Four by Four Toy Run comes to Kamloops

    The Four Wheel Drive Association of BC and Kamloops Four by Four Club have teamed up to host the first Four by Four Toy Run in Kamloops. All toys, food and cash donations go to Christmas Amalgamated, who create over 2000 gift hampers each season.
