  • Proposed new Tourism Kelowna visitor's centre downtown

    In early November, Tourism Kelowna will apply to the City of Kelowna for rezoning to build a new visitor centre downtown on a small City-owned parking lot at Queensway and Mill Street, a parking lot that is slated to be closed as part of the new hotel project. It would lease this land from the City for this public amenity. The proposal is different from the one Tourism Kelowna announced earlier this year.

  • Central Okanagan Floodplain Management Plan being developed

    CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Work is underway to develop a plan to better understand the risks and what can be done to reduce potential damage from flooding in the Central Okanagan.

    The Regional Board has heard from the consultant who prepared the first phase report of the Regional Floodplain Management Plan which has identified and prioritized the criteria for further study of flood hazard areas.  
  • West Kelowna council highlights: May 13, 2014

    Local State of Emergency for Gellatly Road
    Council acknowledged the declaration of the state of local emergency by Mayor Doug Findlater on May 12 regarding the slope failure on a section of Gellatly Road. Gellatly Road, from approximately Witt Road to Angus Drive, was closed May 2 due to erosion of the bank on the west side of the road, adjacent to Smith Creek.
  • Queensway Transit Exchange and road upgrades information session

    The City of Kelowna, B.C. Transit and design consultants VIA Architecture and MMM Group will host an open house March 13 on Queensway, in front of City Hall.

    A $5.6-million investment in Queensway transit exchange and road upgrades begins this summer as part of B.C. Transit’s RapidBus Phase Two and Three Project.
  • West Kelowna council meeting December 10, 2013

    Regional Growth Strategy
    Council agreed not to accept the Regional District of Central Okanagan’s Regional Growth (RGS) Strategy due to concerns with requirements for professional studies that the District does not currently require in its Official Community Plan (OCP). Since OCPs must be consistent with the RGS, this requirement could trigger amendments to existing West Kelowna bylaws.

    Zoning Bylaw – First Reading
    Council gave first reading to its draft Zoning Bylaw, the subject of an extensive review launched last year to implement the objectives of West Kelowna’s Official Community Plan which was adopted in July 2011. The current Zoning Bylaw was inherited from the Regional District of Central Okanagan at time of incorporation and was last substantially reviewed in 2000.
  • District of West Kelowna council highlights for June 18

    West Kelowna Municipal Hall/Civic Centre
    Council received a presentation on the results of the Market Sounding initiative completed in February and March 2013 for a new Municipal Hall/Civic Centre and made the decision to pursue Westbank Centre as the location where acceptable options will be investigated. Consultant Jonathan Huggett advised Council that many submissions were received from private citizens as well as business owners with an interest in land sale and development.
