  • West Kelowna's new amphitheatre and skate park win B.C. Recreation and Parks Award

    The City of West Kelowna was honoured with the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) Facility Excellence Award 2017 for Memorial Park’s new Amphitheatre and Skate Park.

    On April 6, Rebecca Tunnacliffe, BCRPA Chief Executive Officer, presented the award, for projects under $1 million, to Mayor Doug Findlater and City representatives at the association’s Annual Symposium in Kelowna.

  • Gellatly Road work to begin Tuesday, May 20

    WEST KELOWNA - Work will begin Tuesday, May 20 on Gellatly Road to repair the slope failure that forced the recent closure of the road. TT Contracting Ltd. has been contracted by the District of West Kelowna to begin the work which is estimated to take five weeks.

    The work will involve the installation of a 1.8 metre diameter culvert for Smith Creek.

    Regional Growth Strategy
    Council agreed not to accept the Regional District of Central Okanagan’s Regional Growth (RGS) Strategy due to concerns with requirements for professional studies that the District does not currently require in its Official Community Plan (OCP). Since OCPs must be consistent with the RGS, this requirement could trigger amendments to existing West Kelowna bylaws.
  • Favourable weather helps with suppression efforts

    KAMLOOPS – Spotty showers, cooler temperatures, and decreased winds, have allowed fire fighters to make good headway on the Spatsum Creek wildfire. With no additional growth yesterday, the fire remains estimated at 1,400 hectares in size.

    Over 110 fire fighters are on site today, assisted by six helicopters and five water tenders. More crews are continuing to arrive and a Type One Incident Management Team is now in place. A fire camp will be implemented for tomorrow.
