    KELOWNA - Skating season at Stuart Park is coming to a close. Warmer daytime temperatures in the forecast indicate the outdoor rink could be closing within the next week. Until then, the rink will continue to be open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., ice maintenance and weather permitting.

    With the consistently frosty temperatures and recent snowfall in Kelowna, Park Services staff are reminding residents to keep safe and exercise caution around frozen ponds and while walking on park trails.

    While pond ice may look thick enough and safe to skate on, ice may still be forming and surfaces may not be safely frozen over, resulting in thin ice and the potential for injury.
  • Lace up the skates: Stuart Park outdoor ice rink opens soon

    Free skating at the Stuart Park outdoor ice rink is anticipated to begin on Thursday, Dec. 1. Skaters can step on the ice at 10 a.m. on opening day, with the rink then open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily until late February, weather permitting.

    “This is the sixth season that we’ve been able to offer this great opportunity for both residents and visitors to stay active outdoors through the winter season,” said Steve Fagan, Arenas and Stadiums Supervisor.

    KELOWNA - Consistently warm temperatures have ended the outdoor skating season. The Stuart Park outdoor rink will be closed after skating tonight as the ice can no longer be maintained. Skating is still available at Rutland Arena, Capital News Centre and Memorial Arena. Visit kelowna.ca/recreation for public skating times.

    KELOWNA - Skating season is coming to an end at Stuart Park’s outdoor rink. Warm temperatures mean an increase in daytime rink closures with the possibility of the outdoor rink fully closing within the next week.

    Until then, the rink will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., ice maintenance and weather permitting.

    “The rink will re-open in the evenings when the surface has frozen again.
  • Warm weather closes Stuart Park rink

    KELOWNA - The skating rink at Stuart Park will close for the season at 11 a.m. today.

    “With warmer daytime temperatures and sunny days we have experienced several afternoon closures since February 18,” said  Steve Fagan, Arenas and Stadiums Supervisor. “Skater safety is a priority and the ice has become too thin to continue.”

    Arena staff will begin cutting down the ice surface this afternoon in preparation for removal on Wednesday.

    “Crews have been doing their best to maintain the ice, but the warm weather makes it a challenge,” said Steve Fagan, Arenas and Stadiums Supervisor.
