  • RDOS Helps Reduce the Mosquito Population

    Since 1974, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) Nuisance Mosquito Control Program typically runs between mid-May into late August. For the past several years, the program has been starting in April due to weather conditions and resident complaints.

    CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Another sign that winter’s on the way, there’s one month left to have your yard waste picked up at your curb.

    Bi-weekly fall yard waste pickup ends Monday, Nov. 30. That’s the last day in the Central Okanagan for the curbside yard waste pickup program until collection resumes again March 1, 2016.

    KAMLOOPS - The Kamloops Communities in Bloom Committee, City Council, NSBIA and the KCBIA have partnered on this popular and blooming friendly competition. There will be three locations this year with a total of 12 planters in 400-block of Tranquille on North Shore, the 100-block of Victoria Street Downtown and at the Tourism Kamloops Visitor Centre Uptown.

  • Kelowna yard waste pick up program is underway

    If all this mild weather has sent you out in the yard for some pre spring clean- up, you’ll be happy to hear you can start using your yard waste cart again, yard waste collection is back on!

    Starting Monday, March 2nd, all residents on municipal curbside garbage collection can benefit from yard waste pick up every two weeks until the end of November.

    While crews have been out since early April monitoring and treating almost 200 known breeding locations for mosquito larvae, residents can also play a part in reducing the likelihood of hatches in and around their properties.
