  • Two fuel modification projects with debris burning today in Central Okanagan

    With good air quality and venting conditions today (Monday, April 24th) the Regional District of Central Okanagan says that two controlled burns are taking place today in different regional parks.

    Open burning is allowed today for those eligible Central Okanagan property owners with permits from their local fire authority.
  • Open burning season ends April 30

    Eligible property owners with permits have until sunset Sunday, April 30th to wrap up any open burning in the Central Okanagan.

    Under Regional District and local fire bylaws, if conditions are favourable, permitted open burning starts October 1st and must be complete by nightfall April 30th.  Fire chiefs may however change the dates depending on the fire hazard in their specific area.
  • Multiple Central Okangan SAR calls for stranded motorists, stuck in the snow

    Central Okanagan Search and Rescue volunteer members are enjoying the spring weather along with their neighbours, however they would like to remind folks, that while the snow piles have retreated and the streets are being cleaned in the valley, winter conditions are still in effect on forestry roads even within sight of the lake.

    KELOWNA - The Regional District of Central Okanagan advises that with good air quality and venting conditions today (Friday, March 3rd) a controlled burn is underway in a portion of Black Mountain / sntsk‘il’nt?n Regional Park (sinch-KEEL-en-tin).  Open burning is allowed today for those eligible Central Okanagan property owners with permits from their local fire authority.

    With good air quality and venting conditions today, Feb. 22 the Regional District of Central Okanagan advises that a controlled burn is underway in a portion of Black Mountain/sntsk‘il’nt?n Regional Park. 
  • Regional Parks Fuel Modification Projects

    KELOWNA - Over the next several months, residents may notice two fuel modification projects underway in a couple of Regional Parks.

    Contracted crews have started removing dead and hazardous trees, ladder fuels and are brushing vegetation and spacing trees on a five hectare portion of Black Mountain / sntsk‘il’nt?n Regional Park (sinch-KEEL-en-tin).
