    Rescue Interagency Framework

    The Regional Board has approved a new framework for cooperation between Central Okanagan Search and Rescue and the Regional District.  The agreement sets out a common understanding of the roles and responsibilities during search and rescue emergencies.

    Local State of Emergency for Gellatly Road
    Council acknowledged the declaration of the state of local emergency by Mayor Doug Findlater on May 12 regarding the slope failure on a section of Gellatly Road. Gellatly Road, from approximately Witt Road to Angus Drive, was closed May 2 due to erosion of the bank on the west side of the road, adjacent to Smith Creek.

    Safety Program Recognized
    On behalf of Council and the District of West Kelowna, Mayor Doug Findlater accepted two Certificates of Recognition from Worksafe BC and the BC Municipal Safety Association (BCMSA) after a comprehensive review of its Occupational Health and Safety Program and Return to Work/Stay at Work Program.

    Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw Adopted

    The Regional Board has adopted the new Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw No. 1343.  In addition to emails and telephone inquiries about the bylaw, more than 900 responses were received to an online questionnaire and approximately 35 people attended an advertised Information Open House.

    Fibre Strategy
    Council received a report from staff about the City’s plan to develop a Fibre Optic Strategy for the installation of fibre optic cables throughout Kelowna. The strategy will focus on a business plan to outline the benefits and costs of installing fibre optic infrastructure.
  • Four Okanagan municipalities contemplate valley-wide issues

    The four member municipalities of the Inter-Municipal Services Advisory Board - Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton – met in West Kelowna October 29 to discuss topics of mutual concern including valley-wide transportation issues, provincial legislation related to debt funding for essential water works and medical marijuana grow operations.

    Morning Meeting:

    Draft Zoning Bylaw
    Council received information from the Development Services Department regarding the ongoing review of the District’s Zoning Bylaw and provided direction on key components including parking provisions, bicycle parking requirements, commercial zoning permitted uses and minimum allowable lot size for single family dwellings.
