  • Light a Bulb Campaign Exceeds Goal

    The hospital tree is fully lit!  Due to the generous spirit of the North Okanagan community, Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation’s 30th Annual Light a Bulb Campaign has raised $275,888 exceeding its $250,000 goal.

    Businesses, individuals and organizations contributed to the Campaign in amounts of $10 to $40,000.

    VERNON - With nine days to go until Christmas, Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation’s Light a Bulb Campaign has reached $208,505 towards its $250,000 goal.

    “It’s only because of our generous and caring community that we have raised these funds in such a short time,” said Campaign Chair Kevin Arbuckle.  “We still have nearly $42,000 to raise in just over a week.  I am confident we can do it.

  • Eleven trips to the podium for OC students at Skills BC competition

    OKANAGAN - Three Okanagan College students are on their way to Moncton, NB to compete in the Skills Canada National competition following their gold medal wins at the provincial competition, which was held in Abbotsford on April 13. The three gold medalists were joined on the podium by an additional eight students who earned four silver and four bronze medals for the College in categories that ranged from Aerospace Technology and Carpentry, to Culinary Arts.

    Welding students at Okanagan College’s Kelowna Campus recently sparked their torches for the first time in a newly retrofitted shop, and a donation from Praxair’s Global Giving Program is helping the College outfit state-of-the-art workspaces for them.

    “Praxair has a long history of developing talented STEM and skilled trade professionals that help us remain competitive globally,” says Praxair Canada President Sean Durbin.

    Proposed Secondary Suite Designation

    The Regional Board has given second and third reading to a proposed amendment to the Joe Rich Rural Land Use Bylaw in order to allow development of a secondary suite.  The applicant intends to develop a legal secondary suite attached to an existing single family residence on a .4-hectare property on Greystokes Road in the Central Okanagan East Electoral Area.
