  • Students build tiny house to support environmental research

    A unique tiny house built by students in Okanagan College’s Sustainable Construction Management Technology (SCMT) program will soon provide a secure environment at the Vaseux Lake Bird Observatory for bird banding.
  • Regional Parks Fuel Modification Projects

    KELOWNA - Over the next several months, residents may notice two fuel modification projects underway in a couple of Regional Parks.

    Contracted crews have started removing dead and hazardous trees, ladder fuels and are brushing vegetation and spacing trees on a five hectare portion of Black Mountain / sntsk‘il’nt?n Regional Park (sinch-KEEL-en-tin).
  • Safety tips for hanging those lights this season

    As the calendar turns over to December, many thousands of British Columbia workers and homeowners will be decorating homes for the holidays and WorkSafeBC is reminding everyone to undertake this work safely, especially when using ladders. 
  • Vernon's Deer Park getting FireSmart

    From 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 20 and 21, Vernon homeowners are invited to join Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) as well as firefighters and forest officials from the Vernon Fire Zone at Deer Park (9192 Tronson Road) to learn about the FireSmart program and how to protect homes and neighbourhoods from wildfire.

  • Prescribed burn in Kenna Cartwright Park starts today

    KAMLOOPS - The City of Kamloops is partnering with the BC Wildfire Service, Kamloops Fire Rescue and a local contractor, who will act as burn boss, to perform a prescribed burn in Kenna Cartwright Nature Park this spring.
  • Central Okanagan regional parks fuel modification projects

    CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Over the next several months, two large fuel modification projects will be completed in a couple of Regional Parks.

    Starting Monday, November 2nd, crews will be removing dead and hazardous trees, ladder fuels, brushing vegetation and spacing trees on just over 15-hectares throughout the southern portion of Glen Canyon Regional Park in West Kelowna.

  • Volunteer Highlights for Aug. 6 to 13

    Western Canada Theatre
    VW Turtle River Race Ticket Seller - Volunteers are needed to help Western Canada Theatre raise funds by selling raffle tickets for our 14th Annual VW Turtle River Race. Responsibilities include tracking the number of tickets sold during shifts, handling monies, documenting sales, and reporting to the fundraising coordinator. Volunteers should have good communication and numeracy skills. Event day is Sun. Sept. 20. 19+ to volunteer.
