    On behalf of Senator Nancy Greene Raine, Mayor Doug Findlater presented a Canada 150 medal to the Gellatly Bay Trail and Parks Society (GBTAPS). President Bruce Dalrymple accepted the medal on behalf of GBTAPS. The Senate of Canada is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its first sitting by awarding commemorative medals. The medals are being awarded to Canadians or permanent residents actively involved in their communities, who make their hometowns a better place to live.

    Water Rates
    Council gave first three readings to bylaws which intend to lead to Council’s desire for one water system, one water rate, one quality of water for all West Kelowna residents.
  • Draft #2 of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan now available

    After over 5,000 contacts with the community and a year of work by Steering Committee members, the City of Penticton is pleased to share the second draft of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The draft is available online today and contains over 150 recommendations for City parks, beaches, trails, outdoor recreation amenities, indoor recreation facilities and recreation programs and services.

    The City of Vernon is moving forward with improvements to lake access, which will include new parking stalls, a turnaround area, new fencing and signage.

    Canada 150 Flags Presentation
    Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola MP Dan Albas presented flags to be flown at city facilities in recognition of Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation, which will be officially celebrated July 1, 2017. City staff has also requested to use the Canada 150 logo for decorative banners on Boucherie Road Wine Trail and Westbank Centre.

    Council took part in a workshop to review the effectiveness of secondary suite and carriage house regulations in the community, and provided direction on key decision points. Council first implemented secondary suite regulations in 2010 and allowed carriage homes beginning in 2015.

    Mayor Doug Findlater rose and reported that Council had appointed the following people to the Agricultural Advisory Committee, to serve for a period of four years to end December 31, 2020:
  • Draft Parks and Recreation Master Plan and community open house

    After five months of community consultation, data collection, research and in-depth analysis, consulting firm Urban Systems Consulting has provided the City of Penticton a draft version of a Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

    A complete version of the draft Plan draft as well as an Executive Summary of the highlights plan can be viewed online.
