  • Recruiting begins for RCMP volunteer candidates for September intake

    VERNON - The RCMP volunteer program is now recruiting new candidates for classroom training that will take place in Vernon September 21 - 25, 2015. This is a volunteer position working with the City of Vernon and North Okanagan Detachment of the RCMP under the direction and supervision of the Crime Prevention Coordinator, Regan Borisenko, and RCMP.

    In preparation for training, volunteers undergo interviews covering security and program interests.

    KELOWNA - Inspired by Okanagan College’s goal of building one of the most sustainable trades training facilities in North America, a B.C.-based distributor of plumbing and heating supplies has stepped forward with major support for the $33-million renovation and expansion project.

    Andrew Sheret Limited has pledged $50,000 toward the Bright Horizons Building for Skills fundraising campaign.
  • Car giveaway and Country Night at Blazers game Friday

    KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops Blazers have two home games this weekend as they host the Victoria Royals on Friday, Feb. 27 and the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, Feb. 28.

    Friday night is ‘Country Night’ as fans are encouraged to dress in their best western attire to win prizes including Chad Brownlee concert tickets and Rockin’ River Music Festival passes in Merritt this summer.
  • Vernon Citizens Patrol Volunteers begin patrolling in March

    The Vernon Citizens Patrol (COP) Program, part of the City of Vernon’s Safe Communities Unit, has graduated 12 new volunteers who start patrolling the communities in Vernon starting March 1, 2014.

    For over 21 years, the community-based volunteer group has helped to minimize the amount of crime occurring throughout Vernon. COP members assist the RCMP by acting as an extra set of eyes and ears while patrolling our city.
