WorkSafe slaps Kamloops bakery with $8,500 fine after finding asbestos
A Kamloops bakery was fined $8,484.63 last month after a WorkSafeB.C. inspection found asbestos in the food prep area.
The penalties were imposed upon Craig's Bakery Ltd, located on the North Shore. The stop-use order was issued as a result of the first inspection and was in relation to a mixing machine that was being used without adequate safeguards, according to a summary of the penalty.
It was determined the incident was "a repeated and high-risk violation,” according to the summary.

Upon WorkSafe’s second inspection, it was determined floor tiles containing asbestos were sanded and ground in a food prep area with no risk assessment or safety measures taken in relation to asbestos work.
“The firm failed to take the necessary precautions to protect workers before allowing work that would disturb asbestos-containing materials, a high-risk violation,” according to WorkSafe.
