West Kelowna could join Penticton in allowing booze on the beach next summer
West Kelowna city council is being asked to allow alcohol to be sold and consumed on two local beaches next summer.
“With the new regulations allowing restaurants and pubs with their take outs service to offer single serve alcohol such as beer, wine or cocktail we need to create spaces for this to be enjoyed,” Heather Robinson, executive director of the Greater Westside Board of Trade says in a letter going to council today, Dec. 14.
In the letter she points out that similar initiatives have been launched in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver and Penticton.
Penticton allowed alcohol to be served on some it its beaches last year and, just last week, decided to do it again next year.

“We believe that this initiative will support local businesses that make, produce and sell wine, beer and spirits, but also ensure that these locally produced beverages can be enjoyed responsibly,” Robinson wrote.
She attached maps of Rotary and Willow beaches as suggestions of where the alcohol could be served.
