Vernon will soon have two new drive-thru fast-food restaurants.

Popeyes Louisiana Chicken and Triple O's restaurants are currently under construction and will be sharing a building on 27 Street.

City of Vernon economic development and tourism manager John Perrott shared the news at council's Oct. 25 meeting. While the two fast-food chains will be housed in one building, each restaurant will have its own drive-thru. The buildings are being constructed at a site at 27 Street and 37 Avenue near a Tim Horton's and Co-op gas station.

"It expands our culinary repertoire," Perrott told the meeting.

The two restaurants are adding to what Perrott said had been a strong year for commercial building permits. For the first three quarters of 2021 the City has seen $29 million of commercial building activity.

A large chunk of that activity is due to an $11 million expansion at Okanagan Spring Brewery which is expected to be completed by spring 2022.

Residential activity accounted for $78 million worth of building permits so far this year.

Popeyes Louisiana Chicken was founded in New Orleans in 1972 and currently has over 2,000 in the U.S. In 2018, the franchise expanded in Canada and by the following year had 200 restaurants across the country.

There is no date given as yet for when the restaurants will open.
