This cat robot will serve you sushi at a Kamloops Japanese restaurant
The future is now.
Kamloops foodie Beth Quirie was surprised to see her waiter was a little more animatronic than usual when she went to sample Oh Sushi Mura in Kamloops for the first time.
Quirie said she was served by a giant cat robot that delivered sushi to the restaurant customers.
“It’s not something people expect in Kamloops either,” she said, adding she made a post about it on a Kamloops foodie Facebook group and it’s been well received.
Quirie originally went to the Japanese restaurant on Wednesday, Dec. 15 because she heard they had good vegetarian sushi.
“We were kind of sitting down and all of a sudden the little robot went whizzing by and we were like ‘OK, why is no one else freaking out about this?’ They all must have been regulars.”
The robot served regular sushi orders but a human waiter and waitresses still takes orders and serve other hot foods and specialty dishes, she said.
Quirie liked it so much, they went back again Friday night with her family visiting from Ontario.
“I definitely did not expect that in Kamloops in a little Japanese restaurant,” she said. “It’s name is Bella and apparently if you pet it, it will make a little happy noise but we haven’t had a chance to pet it because we were a little awestruck.”
The BellaBot, designed by Pudu, uses 3D sensors to avoid obstacles, according to its website.
The sushi was also “absolutely amazing,” Quirie said.
The owner of Sushi Mura could not be reached for comment.
