Sparkling wine in a can? The Okanagan has some of the best
Wine in a can— brilliant right?
Super portable, easy to pack, unbreakable, and delicious. Who came up with this great idea? The View Winery in Kelowna.
“We decided to can Bling in 2012. As you know, we are a winery and a cidery. With the purchase of a canning line for our Wards Cider products, it was easy to test the market and see if the Okanagan was ready for wine in can," President Jennifer Turton-Molgat said "I was very nervous about how it would be received so we only produced 500 cases. We sold out in less than two months, so I knew we were on to something.”
They have increased production by 1,000 per cent since their first release and continue to sell out every year.
"It has been really fun to promote and appeals to a broad audience. Bling is popular with outdoor enthusiasts. It’s perfect for BBQs, camping, hiking, or just relaxing on the pool deck. We like to say it’s “the wine-lovers answer to the six-pack," Jennifer said.
"My horsey friends and I taking it riding with us. It feels so decadent to be sipping bubbles on the trails.”
There are two types of Bling to choose from – a white and a pink.
Bling White: Made from 100 per cent estate-grown aromatic white wine grapes lovingly drenched by the Okanagan sun. It dazzles with fresh notes of tropical fruit, citrus and melon.
Bling Pink: Made from 100 per cent estate-grown Pinotage Rosé, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Ehrenfelser grapes lovingly drenched by the Okanagan sun. It dazzles with fresh notes of berry and melon.
The View tasting room is located in a heritage fruit packinghouse in South East Kelowna. The building and property offer a wonderful history in Kelowna farming, and Jennifer’s personal family history as the packinghouse and land have been passed down to her by her own Grandfather Ward, the original owner. A delight to visit, set amongst both orchard and vine, here you can taste the range of wines created here (ps there is lots of bubbly and one of the most amazing BC Rosés!) as well as Ward’s Cider, also part of the family operations on site.
