Revelstoke distillery entices employment applicants with entertaining ads
The owner of Revelstoke distillery is trying to cheer people up with his hilarious employment ads.
“Love talking to drunk people? Know the difference between a Negroni and Boulevardier? Even if you don't that’s okay! Can you count to 30? Want nothing more than to sacrifice every weekend of your life for a few bucks and a shot of whisky? If you answered yes to any of these questions then boy oh boy do we have a gig for you,” reads one of the most recent bartender employment ads by Monashee Spirits Craft Distillery.
“I’m well known for my passive-aggressive, comical letter writing,” said owner Josh McLafferty. His letters are scattered around the bar and are written with tongue in cheek.
Humorous posts also reach a larger number of people on social media, he said. “It shows the nature of who we are here, we have a lot of fun when we work here and that’s the number one key here, is to find someone who fits in our team.”
In the last five years of business, he’s always posted comical ads.
He said he's been “blessed” to have loyal staff that have been with him for years, so they haven’t suffered staffing shortages like other businesses but the last two COVID-19 pandemic years have been hard on those in the service industry.
“A lot of them are burning out now. I’m losing two, they’re just completely getting out of this industry,” he said. “People have been mean. We’re lucky, I have a zero-tolerance policy for that type of thing.”
The ads are also meant to bring a bit of entertainment to people who are having difficult times right now, he said.
“At the end of the day, I’ve always got more applications coming in than positions I can fill,” he said.
