New socially responsible online grocery store to support local food systems in the Okanagan

Start Fresh Kitchen in Kelowna has made a smart ‘pivot,’ expanding their catering-focussed and cooking class business to include a new socially responsible online grocery store to support local food systems in the Okanagan.

This expansion was inspired by these Covid days of delivery and the online store offers a beautiful array of local produce, local cheese and dairy, meats, fish and seafood, stocks and sauces, preserves and even household items making it super easy for shoppers to support local businesses.

They also include easy premade meals available from the Start Fresh Kitchen and other local food producers like popular Little Tokyo's famous Ramen with a Shoyu Ramen Kit for Two. They have also taken the time to offer gluten free and and vegan categories.

Start Fresh’s owner, Chef Michael Buffett, has brought in Blake Bjornson (also a chef) to head up the delivery arm and together the two have built a delicious online shopping experience.

“We want to create a one-stop-shop that will keep you and your family full of nutritious foods. One of the secrets to being a great chef is using great ingredients, so our goal is to make finding the best ingredients convenient," Blake said.

Buffett and his team, as always, stick to their community conscious brand and are calling themselves a ‘socially responsible artisan grocer’.

“We believe in environmental responsibility and supporting our local food ecosystem. We serve the community with three main services: an artisan grocery store, high-end catering and events service, and a community cooking school. We favour farm fresh produce and artisan goods, with a spotlight on the highest quality local farmers and food artisans,” Buffett said.

Order online at startfreshkitchen.ca — delivery is free when you order $80 or more, and only $6.95 if your order is below that. You can always pick it up fresh at the Landmark 2 location, or just come in to browse the selection in the shop. Order by 4:30 p.m. and it’ll be delivered that same night.
