A Caesar garnished with lemon pepper wings, steamed prawns, pickled veggies and a salad bite has been selected as the winner of Kelowna’s first Caesar contest.

As part of Caesar Week, from July 3 to 10, restaurants competed for the title of Best Caesar in Kelowna and voters selected Tonics Pub and Grill as the mighty Caesar winner.

The Caesar is made with freshly-squeezed lemon, lime, some secret spices, Stoli Vodka and Clamato.

Nico Sintichakis, co-owner of Tonics, said The Snack Caesar was a team effort between the bartender and staff.

“I guess it's what the people like, they’ve voted and they’ve loved it,” he said. “We thought it’d be a fun thing to do and I hadn’t been in the (contest) before.”

They’ve sold about 1,000 of the special Caesars so far and people are making an appetizer out of the $19 drink, Sintichakis said.

“We were pleasantly surprised and very grateful and thankful to the people of Kelowna and we’re already started planning our Caesar for next year. It’s going to be even more amazing,” he said.

They sell on average about 100,000 lb. of chicken wings a year.

The special Caesar will be available until the end of July but Sintichakis is undecided as whether or not it will remain for the rest of the summer.

This was the first Caesar Week in Kelowna. The event travels to different Canadian cities.
