Kelowna winery offering gorgeous snowshoe and fondue experience
It’s winter in the Okanagan and there’s plenty to do at The View Winery and Wards Cider, including a romantic snowshoe through the vineyard.
Grab a pair of the winery’s snowshoes, or bring your own, to explore a beloved Kelowna orchard and vineyard that has been family-owned and -operated for five generations.
Look closely and you can find some of the old apple trees planted by President Jennifer Turton-Molgat’s great grandfather George Ward, who settled on the property in 1918. Historically, he grew fresh market apples. In the 1990s, vineyards and cider apples were planted by his grandson Chris Turton.
The winery’s latest event, called Slip ‘n Sip, invites guests to snowshoe or hike through the apple trees and vineyards on a self-guided tour before warming up with a flight of five wines paired with a cheese and chocolate fondue.
“We’re literally 15 minutes away from downtown Kelowna so it’s not far for people to drive and it gives people another winter option other than skiing. They can enjoy a relaxing snowshoe through the orchards and vines and then come in and treat themselves to a tasting and fondue," Turton-Molgat said.
Guests can partake for $30 each, which grants them access to the self-guided tour, the fondue, and a flight of five of The View’s wines. The Slip ‘n Sip experience is available Tuesdays to Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout January and February.
“It’s a pretty romantic setting. We set people up in the barrel room where the red wines are aging, under a 100-year-old chandelier. It would be a very beautiful Valentine’s date,” Turton-Molgat said.
“It’s also a great option for a girl’s day,” said tasting room and hospitality manager Krista Pallos.
