The parties in Kamloops will carry on into the wee morning hours this New Year's Eve.

City council voted today, Dec. 5 to allow pubs and nightclubs to keep their doors open until 3 a.m. for one night only on New Year's Eve.

A staff report presented to council said the RCMP has historically been opposed to the extended hours because of staffing pressures.

This time, the detachment had no issue with the 3 a.m. extension.

The police did voice concern over extending bar openings to 4 a.m. suggesting it would put too much pressure on its cell blocks.

For the rest of the year, liquor rules revert to normal with pubs closing at 1 a.m. and nightclubs an hour later.
