As people are itching to return to the outdoors following pandemic restrictions, the Kamloops Regional Farmers' Market is seeing record attendance in both vendors and customers.

Greg Unger, farmers' market manager, said it’s been packed since April when the market opened for the season, so much so that he’s finding every odd space to put vendors and even had to turn some away.

The variety at the market is pretty much everything you can think of, he said. You can find locally-grown fruits and vegetables, garden plants, house plants, baked goods, vegan ice cream, coffee, donuts, hot dogs and more.

New this year are gin and vodka vendors including Red Bridge Distilling, Route 1 Distillery and Gin Lane.

“The Kamloops craft and distillery scene is exploding and we’re happy to support that,” Unger said.

A crafter’s market also showcases the creativity of vendors from the Kamloops region.

“We’ve had all kind of special events, music, the Pollinator Festival was new this year, it’s just been a really big exciting year for us,” Unger said.

The market is also expanding its accessibility with a ramp connecting crafter and farmer sections.

They’re also excited to announce the purchase of an electric front-loading cargo bike, an eco-friendly way to set up and take down the market. They got the bike with the support of A&T Construction and District Bicycle Company, Unger said.

You can visit the dog-friendly market every Saturday on St. Paul Street in Kamloops from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays along Victoria Street outside of the Thompson Nicola Regional Library from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Both markets run until the end of October.
