iNwine Wednesday: Anthony Buchanan 'Ashlyn' Pinot Noir

Ashlyn Pinot Noir, named for winemaker Anthony Buchanan’s daughter.

Anthony Buchanan is a local Garagiste. Which means that he works as a full time winemaker and moonlights as his own winemaker for his own label.

Anthony’s repertoire includes: Pinot Noir, Malbec, Rosé, Syrah, Viognier, a red and white blend, FUBAR, SNAFU and a Wild Ferment Brut Methode Ancestrale.

He and his wife Nichol operate the micro winery with their two children Ashlyn and Lawson. Vive Les Garagistes!

This is one of the most gorgeous BC Pinot Noirs I have tasted and highly recommend!

2018 Pinot Noir Ashlyn $33.99

Anthony explains:

“This is my first wild ferment Pinot Noir: unfined, unfiltered, gentle winemaking. I wanted this Pinot to be elegant, silky and refined; an Old-World style from a New World climate. This is food-friendly and approachable, but you can still cellar it for five to 10 years.

"I find Pinot Noir sometimes takes about a year after bottling to take shape; but I know this wine so well, I’ve tasted its evolution from the vineyard to crush to barrel. Deep black cherries. Sage, plums, violets. Baking spice and sweet cherry cola with a savoury, saline component. In a year or more those floral aromatics will come through."
