Did you know that Kelowna’s local favourite gelato shop has a secret life? QB Gelato’s creators Victor Laderoute and Kevin Bojda are food and drink event innovators on top of being super palate pleasers. Besides being the go-to gelato shop, they offer delicious coffee, lunch options, cooking classes and they have a supper club and now drink pairing events too.
After learning the art of gelato making from scratch (in Italy, the actual birthplace of this coolest treat), the couple chose Kelowna as their new home, moved here and opened their shop in 2017. And we, as a community, won the gelato lottery, it's out of this world and is an ever-evolving spectrum of flavour options. Victor is the gelato master in the fam and is literally a wizard of creativity. Kevin has a gift for pairing and matches gelato flavours to create a party in your mouth.
Together they have extended their hospitality and passion for food and drink to produce a supper club on select nights throughout the year. The menu always astounds as do the pairings. Here they also bring in winemakers to co-host and entertain their intimate table of supper clubbers. This style of dining experience is perfect for a growing community as it promotes meeting new people with similar interests.
Now they have expanded further, partnering with one of the world’s premier Port producers, Taylor Fladgate with Cynthia Opsal from Pacific Wine & Spirits (an inspiring educator of The Fladgate Partnership Brand) to create a Port Tasting & Gelato Pairing events happening February 21-22. An example of one of the pairings:
Fonseca Terra Prima Organic Port - opulent black fruit, blackberry, plum and cherry paired with fig and gruyere gelato with white balsamic. Whaaat?
And they are not stopping at just wine and Porte. Up next is whisky. QB Gelato & Café and Okanagan Spirits have teamed up to present an evening of Whisky Education and Gelato Pairing on March 27 at 7 p.m. Go to their website to check out all of the events and book in fast.
