Escape into the endless summer at Spirit Ridge in Osoyoos
Spirit Ridge in the Unbound Collection by Hyatt offers an unforgettable destination in Osoyoos. Aptly named for its majestic position in the desert hills, this stunning resort overlooks the valley and lake below and is surrounded by lush vineyards. The views here will utterly captivate your spirit and your imagination as you enter the mystical lands of the Osoyoos Indian Band.
First to greet you as you wind your way up the hillside to the winery is a beautiful sculpture of an indigenous warrior, arms raised to the skies, with a dramatic backdrop of the valley below. You will feel transported into a new world and, if you listen closely, you will hear a whispering from the past that will evoke a powerful connection to the centuries of footprints that lie beneath you.
Osoyoos is a true desert escape and one with an ‘endless summer’ as temperatures remain warm much longer into the fall season. This desert also offers many ‘wells’, with award winning wineries surrounding nearby including on site. Here you will discover the first indigenous-owned winery in North America, NK’MIP (pronounced in-ka-meep) Cellars. NK’MIP Cellars is a cultural celebration of the Osoyoos Indian band and testament to the innovation of Chief Clarence Louie and his vision and dream to plant vineyards and build a winery.
The winery represents a joint venture between the Osoyoos Indian Band (Sylix people) and Arterra Wines Canada. The winery is set amongst the many amenities offered at Spirit Ridge including the beautiful Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre operated by the Osoyoos Indian Band. The Centre provides a scope inside the Band’s history, lands, legends and people. The winery also has a patio restaurant offering indigenous-inspired, locally sourced farm-to-table cuisine.
This four-star resort offers 226 guestrooms, featuring fireplaces, patios with barbecues and full kitchens. Guests that don’t want to prepare meals at home can enjoy the cuisine of celebrated Chef Murray McDonald at Spirit Ridge’s celebrated restaurant: The Bear, The Fish, The Root & The Berry, an apropos name celebrating the hyper local foraging philosophy here.
Art lovers will gasp at the sculptures and artwork featured on the walls throughout the property, it is literally a walking gallery. And dogs are welcome here with pet friendly rooms available to book.
Guests at this desert oasis will truly want for nothing. There are shuttles into town and down to the resort’s private beach, beautiful walks to enjoy around the property into the vineyards and hillsides. And the resort also arranges wonderful activities for their guests and the community to participate in like painting classes offered by Artist in Residence Daina Deblette, Children’s Art Camps and Creative Travel Journaling.
Spirit Ridge is literally a feast for the senses – both physically and spiritually, it provides the perfect adventure away from home.
