Springtime and warmer weather means it's the perfect time to travel to the South Okanagan for a getaway.

Spirit Ridge Resort, located on the traditional lands of the Osoyoos Indian Band, has plenty to offer for everyone, from a relaxing day at the Solterra Desert Spa to a round of golf at the Sonora Dunes Golf Course.

The resort has been working with internationally acclaimed Vancouver designers who have brought the resort's vision to life, now nearing completion of an additional 63 newly renovated rooms. Spirit Ridge Resort is part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, a series of one-of-a-kind hotels offering amazing experiences to guests.

“Part of our transition to an international brand like Hyatt is we’ve really been focusing on renovating different parts of the resort,” said executive director Daniel Bibby. Roughly $6 million has been invested into the property over the past four years.

“The design is a modern pallet of colours and textures with a reference to First Nations art and experience,” he said.

Indigenous culture is woven throughout the resort, from the artwork to the culinary offerings at the Bear, the Fish, the Root & the Berry restaurant.

Chef Murray McDonald sources local ingredients from the land and this summer he’s created a whole new menu for the season. Delicious new desserts can also be sampled this spring and summer from the creative expertise of pastry chef Carl Sanchez.

The vineyard has started to come to life and Bibby welcomes guests to come and relax at the outdoor pools, as the resort opens more pools in the spring, or enjoy a glass of South Okanagan wine at Nk'Mip Cellars, the first First Nations owned winery in North America.

Indian Grove Riding Stables horse rides are also available to those who are interested in experiencing the gorgeous desert landscape and White Sands Beach on horseback.

Bibby is also encouraging guests to visit Wakepilot Water Sports to take a paddleboard or boat to experience the Osoyoos Lake waters.

A trip to the Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre is another experience guests can take to learn about the region's traditional lands and its people.

“It’s going to be a beautiful summer, we’re excited,” Bibby said.
