Authentic German bistro opens on Kamloops' North Shore
Kamloops foodies can now enjoy homemade authentic German food on the Tranquille corridor.
Eddies European Bistro opened its doors almost two week ago and while the whole menu is not finished until the cooks complete training, there are some fresh and tasty options available.
“Everything is made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients,” said owner Eduardo Steiger.
Originally from Germany, Steiger is excited to bring European cuisine to the neighbourhood, offering a varied menu of specialty pizzas, donairs, soups and calzones.
Steiger’s first attempt to open a venue at a location in Valleyview earlier this year is paused while permit issues are being ironed out. He wasted no time in opening a second one at 273 Tranquille Road as soon as the opportunity arose.
“This used to be a Vietnamese restaurant but the owners moved and when I saw it come up for sale I took it right away. I’m very happy with this busy location.”

The sit down restaurant is bright and clean with lots of natural light pouring in from the full-sized front window and fresh air coming from an open door at the back.
Steiger said the restaurant looks similar to what one would see in Germany.
He said it took weeks of work to transform the place, and he hasn’t added the final artistic touches yet.
“We had to paint all of the walls and redo the floor,” he said. “We had a lot of deep cleaning to do in the kitchen. Then we brought in the new white tables and overhead lights. Next I will put large photographs of Germany on the walls to add to the cultural experience.”
A cornerstone food offering is the donair that comes wrapped in a seasoned fresh baked pita shell and is stuffed full with crunchy vegetables and thin slices of meat.
Called a doner kebab in Europe and originally made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie, the modern sandwich variant of doner kebab was derived and popularized in Berlin in the 1960s by Turkish immigrants.
The donairs come drizzled with a delicious, creamy herb sauce but when asked what it’s made of, Steiger wouldn’t spill the company recipe.

As his cooks continue to master the menu, Steiger will be offering more authentic German foods such as schnitzels, which are thin, tenderized slices of meat that are often breaded before they are fried.
He plans to bring his food to future events and activities in the city and is looking forward to sharing the European flavours with his community.
Customers can dine in or order for pickup from Monday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
