Attention witches and wizards: You're invited to a Harry Potter pub crawl in Kelowna
Bring your wand, sorting hat and favourite flavour of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans because a Harry Potter pub crawl is coming to Kelowna next month.
“We want to people dress up and nerd out,” said Krishna Parmar, director of marketing and event planning with Dart Frog Events, which is hosting Harry Potter pub crawls across Canada.
While there’s no Platform 9 3/4 in the city, gaggles of wizards and witches are making their way to Kelowna, March 27. A regular ticket cost $30 and includes a Harry Potter shirt and bar pass. For $5 more you can choose your house and also receive a Hogwart's acceptance letter, Platform 9 3/4 train ticket, Hogwart's diploma, golden snitch sticker, two posters and a bar pass.
“I’ve never been to Kelowna before, it’s a place we just decided to visit so we decided to launch (the event) and see what happens,” Parmar said.
Drink specials like Butterbeer will also be available, he said. Trivia will be held at the first stop where patrons have the chance to win a golden snitch (necklace), stickers, ties and scarves that would make Hogwarts students proud.
The second stop will have a photo booth, so wizards and witches can pose with their wands. An online social media scavenger hunt will take place throughout the night.
Parmar said Kelowna is one of 21 cities that they’ve been holding this event at, and they’ve only received positive attention from previous events.
“It’s really cool to see a bar in Winnipeg, specifically a student bar, and all these dressed up Harry Potter (people walk in) and if you’re not a Harry Potter fan you feel out of place,” he said.
“We want them to dress up and express themselves. This whole idea of people teasing people because (they’re fans) is so overplayed. It’s no different than me wearing a football jersey at a bar.”
Tickets can be purchased online through Dart Frog Events and are already half sold out. Parmar said locations have yet to be announced but three to four bars are expected to be a part of the magical night.
