The weather is warming up and new menu items from a popular Kamloops brewery can be enjoyed outdoors this season.

Alchemy Brewing, at 650 Victoria St., has two spaces for patrons to enjoy a cool beer and delicious smoked meats outside.

Patio season is here for Alchemy Brewing'

Co-owners and husband and wife duo Al and Shantel Renner opened the brewery in 2018 and are glad to see patrons returning and experiencing a full house now that the pandemic has eased.

“We took a love and passion for craft beer, barbeque and pizza as foodies into the business and I am very much the head brewer, coming up with new and exciting brews that Kamloops will enjoy,” Al said.

Shantel hires and trains servers, hostesses and looks after event bookings, she said. Her favourite part of coming into work is seeing the people, especially joking with the regulars.

“We’re always trying to push the bounds of what we’re doing with barbeque. We have a new charcoal smoker we’re bringing into the patio to compliment the low and slow cooking we’re doing in-house already,” Al said. The smoker will be ready by the end of May.

The following in Kamloops is only growing and the pair continue to see new faces all the time.

As a small seven-barrel brewery, beer is tailored to guests that come through the doors. One of the best sellers, Bad Hombre, has been changed out for a Ukrainian pale lager to support humanitarian efforts for the country.

“Those nice light beers are a way to get customers involved into the craft scene and then slowly move them towards some more adventurous beers or some they may not normally try,” Al said, “so that’s always fun.”

By the end of May, all the items of the brewery’s new spring and summer menu will be available like brisket and smoked chicken tacos, brisket cob salad with smoked hard-boiled egg, a reverse-seared smoked pork chop and more straight from the new smoker directly to the customer.

“All of it is so good,” Shantel said, adding her current favorite is the southern pulled-pork sandwich; fresh, juicy smoked meat with the crunch of the coleslaw.

New menu items include a different cheese cake and crème brulée every month. The menu also features seasonal, local ingredients and they've partnered with Benny the Butcher, a Kamloops butcher shop, that supplies them with locally-sourced meats, Al said.

“We always wanted to give people that immediate barbeque experience and we feel like we’re moving towards that,” Al said. “We do a Bronco burner in homage to the Kamloops Broncos Football team, it’s a big, beefy burger with crispy onions and blueberry barbeque chipotle sauce,” he said.

Pizzas are made with a traditional Italian-style forno oven and feature light, simple, quality ingredients.

“People dig a napoli-style pizza,” he said.
