A cheese shop with an international stamp of approval in Kelowna
Turophile: (toor'-oh-file, tyoor'-oh-file) n. a connoisseur of cheese; a cheese fancier. from Greek tyros "cheese" + philos "loving."
Kelowna Turophiles, we bring joyful news of your new hub. Persevel & Young Cheesemongers have just set up new digs in downtown Kelowna’s Brewery District.
This new destination for foodies is so long overdue in our community. No longer will we have to schlep our favourite cheeses home from travels to larger urban centres, now we just need to hop over to P & Y to appease all of our cheese needs. The shop also carries Okanagan Grocery bread and baguettes, local pickles and honey and delicious crackers handmade by an artisan in Victoria, making this a one-stop shop when having friends over, for picnic fare or for the perfect hostess gift.
And there is much to be learned about the almighty fromage and the many types available. There is a cheese for every mood, personality and wine, and cheesemongers Desiree Young and husband Phillip Perseval are here to educate us.
“We will be offering a carefully chosen selection of fine cheeses and accompaniments from across Canada and Europe," Desiree explains.
"We are looking at different options for our customers such as ready prepared cheese boards and 'to go' items."
The couple has also been talking to local wineries that are interested in partnering for wine and cheese pairing workshops and events.
After researching many different venues, the couple decided on the North End of Kelowna as their new hood.
“We have really enjoyed watching Kelowna's craft beer scene boom in the last few years (we are huge fans of craft beer) and have watched with intrigue as microbrewery after microbrewery has opened in the North End," Desiree says.
And the area is familiar to the duo who have always had a close attachment to the area, having lived there when they first moved to Kelowna in 2006 and then worked in the area for a number of years as well.
"We love the community spirit in this neighbourhood, and the honest, down to earth and fun going nature of the people that live and work here," she said.
"This dynamic area is only going to continue to grow and we are so excited to be a part of that growth over the next few years.”
