Storm warnings have ended but snowfall warnings continue for mountain passes in the Southern Interior through today, Jan. 9.

From 2-4 cm of snow are also expected to accumulate in valley bottoms.

Environment Canada has maintained the snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton and Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass through to Wednesday morning with another 20 to 30 cm of snow expected.

“A strong low pressure system moving through BC will continue to give snow today and tonight,” the warning says. “Additionally, winds will be particularly strong near the summits today, with wind gusts up to 70 km/h giving near zero visibilities in blowing snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.”

Another snowfall warning is in effect for Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass but only 10 cm of snow are expected.

The snowfall is expected to continue through the day in Kelowna and Vernon with another 2-4 cm falling. Daytime highs should be around the freezing level.

Snow should ease in Kamloops and Penticton late this morning with 2 cm falling. Highs in Kamloops could reach 2 C and 0 C in Penticton.

With the end of the snowfall by Wednesday morning, temperatures are expected to drop a few degrees tomorrow before plummeting Wednesday night.

Kamloops is looking at a high temperature of -15 C on Thursday, -18 C on Friday and Saturday.

The Okanagan could see daytimes highs of -10 C Thursday and -15 C on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to ease through the weekend but still be sub-zero next week.
