Resident pokes fun at Kamloops transit on social media
A regular BC Transit rider in Kamloops is making people laugh with her creative memes and horoscopes depicting her experiences riding a city bus from her home on the reservation to the downtown exchange.
Shay Paul said it’s “just silly fun” and she “just wants people to laugh and have a good time about it.”
Paul has been riding the city bus on route 18 since 2019. Her recent tongue-in-cheek memes were prompted by occasions where she’s been “hurled through the air” when a driver “hits speed bumps at higher-than-posted speeds” and the times bus pickups are delayed.
“The delays are mostly due to development below Sun Rivers,” she said. “In all honesty, it’s less funny and can be anxiety-inducing when drivers are going over the posted speed limits.”
Paul creates the memes on her computer or phone while on route. The idea for her Kamloops City Bus Horoscope came from a friend.
“My friend is a staff volunteer editor for the University of Victoria and he told me about this crazy thing one of his coworkers came up with,” Paul said. “They did a bus horoscope for Victoria and I thought I’ve got to do one for Kamloops. People are eating it up.”
She posted the horoscopes with a disclaimer – “inaccuracy is a guarantee,” and linked each sign with a regular bus route. The horoscope for Capricorn reads: "Capricorn, your determination is unmatched, even when you find yourself in a half-sized handy dart going 15 km over the speed limit. Hold on tight, your strong will power will help you navigate any speed bumps this month."
The horoscope for Sagittarius reads: "Sagittarius, your adventurous spirit is in full swing, much like the journey to Juniper Ridge (route 16). You might encounter some unexpected twists and turns, but your optimism and enthusiasm will make the ride worthwhile."

Paul said she might make more horoscopes on other topics in the city, “local horoscopes that are silly and fun.”
