A motorcycle rider was seriously injured in a collision with a parked police car in Kamloops and BC's police watchdog is investigating.

It happened on July 22, according to an Independent Investigations Office of BC media release issued today, July 27. An RCMP officer was responding to an unrelated incident on Highway 1 westbound at Holman Road around 10:55 p.m. where they parked the police vehicle and got out.

Shortly after, a motorcycle collided with the parked cop car and another stationary emergency vehicle. The rider was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The independent investigations office was notified on July 23.

Investigators will try to confirm the details of the collision, and are reaching out to any members of the public who may have relevant information. They can be contacted by calling witness line at 1-855-446-8477 or through the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in BC. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
