A male driver was killed and a female passenger was taken to hospital with injuries after two pickup trucks collided on Highway 97 in Quesnel.

The crash happened at about 1:40 p.m. yesterday, June 14, on Highway 97 near Lansdowne Road in the central Interior city roughly halfway between Williams Lake and Prince George.

Both victims were in a Dodge Ram pickup that was pulling a trailer.

No one was injured in the commercial Ford F-150 that was involved in the collision.

“The cause of the incident is still under investigation, but it appears at this time that a mechanical failure may have contributed to the collision,” says an RCMP BC Highway Patrol news release.

Both police and WorkSafeBC are investigating.

Highway 97 was closed with alternating traffic for about eight hours following the crash.
