One person is dead after a head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Salmon Arm.

A BMW SUV heading east lost control on the highway and collided with a Ford F-150 towing a tent trailer heading westbound.

According to a Salmon Arm RCMP media release, passing motorists stopped to help and were able to get the driver and passenger out of the white F-150.

"Despite the best efforts of the people at the scene they could not get the driver of the BMW out of the vehicle which was fully involved in fire," the release says.

At approximately 2:05 p.m. July 25, a Salmon Arm RCMP member saw smoke just east of 30 Street NE and headed to the scene.

The driver of the truck and a female passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

RCMP are asking the public for dash camera video from those travelling in the area leading up to the crash.

"Particularly, video which may have been captured of a Silver or grey BMW X5 SUV travelling east between the 21 Street NE overpass and 38 Street NE on the Trans-Canada Highway between the hours of 1:50 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. on July 25," the release says.
