A person is dead after a pickup truck crashed head on into a transport truck on Friday and both vehicles caught fire south of Castlegar on Highway 22.

The collision happened along Highway 22 in the Blueberry Creek area between Castlegar and Trail, and was reported to police around 6 a.m. on May 31, according to a press release from Castlegar RCMP.

Investigators determined the pickup was going north when it crossed the centre line on the road and crashed into the transport truck, and both trucks ended up engulfed in flames.

Each truck had one occupant. The 60-year-old transport truck driver was treated for their injuries and taken to the hospital but the 47-year-old pickup driver died at the scene of the crash.

Castlegar RCMP are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to call 250-365-7721.
